Comprehensive thyroid care that goes beyond basic TSH testing to identify and treat the full spectrum of thyroid disorders. We utilize advanced thyroid panels including T3, T4, TSH, and thyroid antibodies to provide accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment. Our approach addresses both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism while identifying underlying causes such as autoimmune conditions, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental factors. Treatment plans may include thyroid hormone replacement, nutritional support, and lifestyle modifications to restore optimal thyroid function.
Thyroid Disease Management Q & A
Why do I still have symptoms even though my doctor says my TSH is normal?
TSH alone doesn't provide the complete picture of thyroid function. We test comprehensive thyroid panels including Free T3, Free T4, Reverse T3, and thyroid antibodies. Many patients have optimal TSH levels but suboptimal T3 conversion or autoimmune thyroiditis that standard testing misses.
What's the difference between T4-only medications like Synthroid and T3-containing treatments?
T4-only medications like Synthroid require your body to convert T4 to the active T3 hormone. Some patients have impaired conversion and benefit from medications containing T3, such as Armour thyroid, NP Thyroid, or compounded T4/T3 combinations.
Can thyroid problems cause weight gain, hair loss, and fatigue?
Yes, thyroid dysfunction commonly causes weight changes, hair thinning, fatigue, brain fog, mood changes, and temperature sensitivity. Even subclinical thyroid dysfunction can produce significant symptoms that impact quality of life.
What is Hashimoto's thyroiditis and how is it treated?
Hashimoto's is an autoimmune condition where your immune system attacks the thyroid gland. Standard treatment focuses only on thyroid hormone replacement, but our approach also addresses the autoimmune component through nutritional support, gut health optimization, and inflammation reduction.
How often should thyroid levels be monitored?
Initially, we monitor levels every 6-8 weeks when adjusting medications. Once stable, most patients need testing every 3-6 months. However, symptoms and life changes may require more frequent monitoring.
Can diet and lifestyle changes improve thyroid function?
Absolutely. Nutrient deficiencies in iodine, selenium, zinc, and tyrosine can impair thyroid function. We also address factors like chronic stress, poor sleep, gut health issues, and environmental toxins that can affect thyroid hormone production and conversion.
What thyroid tests do you recommend beyond TSH?
Our comprehensive thyroid panel includes TSH, Free T4, Free T3, Reverse T3, TPO antibodies, and Thyroglobulin antibodies. This provides a complete assessment of thyroid hormone production, conversion, and autoimmune activity.
